Calls to Action:
Come to the People’s Emergency Briefing on 12 June
MKCAN are organising a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing (PEB) film on 12 June at the Sky Cinema, MK Gallery.
The PEB is a summary version of the National Emergency Briefing on the climate and nature crisis that was held for MPs last November. The film presents a clear, measured overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life in Britain - and what the evidence says about risks and responses. There are currently over 850 screenings planned to take place across the UK. The details of the first Milton Keynes screening are as follows:
Location: Sky Cinema, MK Gallery, 900 Midsummer Blvd, Milton Keynes, MK9 3QA.
Date: Friday 12th June,
Time: 4.00 – 6.00pm
We are inviting all 3 MK MPs, as well as Councillors and staff from MK City Council, selected business leaders, MK City developers and members of community groups concerned about Milton Keynes’ environment and nature.
Following the 45-minute film, there will be a 45-minute interactive discussion with the audience and invited guests to discuss people’s reactions and agree solutions for Milton Keynes and the members of local communities.
We encourage other organisations in MK to organise their own film screening and post-film discussion to consider ideas and solutions relevant to them. So if you cannot make the screening on 12 June, look out for other screenings on the NEB map.
Write to your MP to come to the briefing and support a Nature and National Security Bill
Many environmental groups are supporting a Nature and National Security Bill. This would recognise nature as critical national infrastructure vital to the UK’s national security. Further details are here.
Groups are calling for an MP to propose this as a private member’s bill in this new Parliamentary Session. Supporters are therefore being asked to write to their MP by 20 May asking them to enter the private member’s bill ballot on 21 May and support this legislation.
MKCAN have prepared this template letter which you can personalise and send to your local MP encouraging them to attend the film screening on 12 June and support the Nature and National Security Bill.
